Emily & James are 23 and 24 and have been best friends for years. They’ve lived together, supported each other through some of the hardest periods of their lives, and simply call each other “my person.” Emily is aroace and has no interest in romantic relationships, while James is bisexual and dates other people.
They used to joke that if neither of them was married by their thirties, they’d just marry each other for the legal and financial benefits.
Somewhere along the way, though, Emily realized she actually wanted that future. There’s no romantic or sexual attraction between them, just the certainty that they want to build a life together. They now share a home, adopted a cat together, and talk about growing old side by side.
